About Taco Xpress - our story

The Taco Xpress Story as told by Maria Corbalan - South Austin’s Taco Queen and proud owner/founder.

"Taco Xpress opened it’s doors 14 years ago, after I tried different businesses. Before Taco Xpress, I had a gift store and a convenience store, but nothing seemed to work. So, in 1997, I got an extension on my taxes and bought a little trailer. With some help from friends, a few dishes from my house and $500 in cash, I started to cook in my trailer. My friend Michael Peschka painted it real cute, and there we went.

For the first 3 months, there was nothing. Our sales were around $17 per day, until KABOOM! My first review in the Austin American-Statesman started the madness - thank God! and the rest is history. Now we have 18 employees, more than 100 articles and reviews in many newspapers, including the Austin Chronicle.

Of course, I have to THANK all of you immensely...and remember, please keep that healthy appetite!"

And, there is more to come with our new deck and more live music and our happy hours!
